The Computer Science Department of St. Bonaventure University will host its 6th Annual Girl's Day on Saturday, November 3. Middle school girls from Western New York and Northwest Pennsylvania have a chance to learn about careers in information technology from women professionals in the field. At the same time participants will attend hands-on, computer workshops presented by St. Bonaventure graduates and assisted by current St. Bonaventure students in areas such as web page design and and computer graphics. "Our goal in offering Girl's Day is to encourage middle school girls to study computer science and pursue careers in the area," said Dr. Suzanne Watson, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at St. Bonaventure University and the Girl's Day Coordinator. "Girls have a chance to meet with women working in the field, to learn about career opportunities, and to experience the field through hands on activities." Girls interested in attending the one day workshop may obtain the application form on line or through their school. Permission of a parent or guardian and a recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor are required. The workshop runs from 8:45 am through 3:00 pm. A breakfast snack and luunch are provided. There is no cost to participants. For more information about Girl's Day please visit the Girl's Day web site. Questions may be addressed to Dr. Watson.
