Final preparations are underway for the Nineteenth Annual High School Programming Contest which the Computer Science Department will host on Friday, March 2. Eighteen teams are registered for the competition including last year’s winning team from Union-Endicott High School, in Endicott, NY. The participants for this year’s competition include local schools Hinsdale High School and Scio High School as well as schools from Buffalo, Rochester, Pittsburgh, Ohio, Delaware, and Massachusetts. Phillips Academy from Andover, MA, and Webster Thomas High School from Webster, NY, are first-time participants this year.The programming competition runs from 9:30 until 12:30. The teams will use networked computers in three labs on campus. The orientation for the competition will start at 8:45 in Dresser Auditorium and the final awards presentations will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Dresser Auditorium. The teachers that accompany the teams will attend a workshop on the use of robots in the classroom while their students compete. Leigh Ann Sudol, a high school teacher from Bedford, NY, who is currently in a visiting position at Carnegie Mellon University, will be presenting at the workshop.
The competition is hosted by the Department of Computer Science with support from the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the Technology Services department and the help of approximately 20 students.
